Business advice and a sounding board for start ups

Alana Scott is on a mission to help those with gut issues fall back in love with food. After being diagnosed with Coeliac Disease and IBS in 2014, Alana was struggling to find recipes that were easy, safe to eat, and had accessible ingredients. She understood that there were so many people with tummy troubles who would benefit from an online resource, and A Little Bit Yummy was born!

After meeting Tim at an entrepreneurial event in 2016, Alana knew she’d found a company that she could trust to help with all her start-up accounting needs, and to make sure everything was in order.

“I love working with the team at Evans Doyle. They are so onto it - if I have an issue, or a question, or do the wrong thing in Xero, they are on hand to help. The team are so friendly and approachable, and there is absolutely no judgement. I work closely with Tim who provides business advice, and acts as a sounding board. He has helped my business to grow, and it’s great having someone to bounce ideas off. I can’t recommend the team highly enough - I have passed on their details to so many others, and know that they will help and support all with the same level of respect and care.”

We love working with A Little Bit Yummy, and can’t wait to see how the business continues to grow in the future. Check out the A Little Bit Yummy website for the awesome range of recipes, and to find out more!

Strategic Business Planning the key to success

Simon Cochrane runs Athletic Peak, an endurance coaching business. With 15 years of experience in the fitness industry, he has over 37 IronMan finishes, including winning the Ultraman Australia earlier this year, and shaving a massive 80 MINUTES off the world record!

Simon needed the support of accountants who understood his business goals and could help him achieve them, while he helps others achieve their fitness and performance goals.

“I went to Evans Doyle for all my accounting needs, and for a strategic business planning session. The business planning was invaluable - we created a year long plan that gave me key points to focus on, and milestones to hit. I was able to achieve these goals within a couple of months, and continue to grow with the ongoing support of Evans Doyle. The process is seamless, and the team are so easy to work with. They are responsive, helpful, and I would highly recommend working with them.”

We're proud to be working with Simon and helping him achieve his business goals. Find out more about Simon on his website:

A personal touch to accounting

I turned to Evans Doyle for their accounting services, seeking general advice on business structure and optimal operation. Dissatisfied with our previous accounting service provider, I was recommended to Tim, who meticulously reviewed our situation and offered valuable suggestions.

I’m involved with two businesses - Manuka Brothers, a coffee roastery based in Hamilton that is managed by Liz and Tyson Downing, and Designed Creative, my engineering consulting limited company.

I was instinctively drawn to Tim because he is more than just an accountant. He exudes a positive vibe and genuine interest in our business success. It's a stark contrast to the service I received before.

The entire process has been remarkably smooth. The Evans Doyle team handle everything from basic Xero issues to complex coding matters. Tim makes it a point to be accessible, whether it's through phone consultations or face-to-face meetings to assess the progress of both businesses.

What sets Evans Doyle apart is the profoundly personal touch they bring to their services. I always feel comfortable reaching out to them, never experiencing the sense of being a small player.

Their integrity shines through in their recommendations. Tim is diligent about ensuring the advice he offers is free of risk, creating a sense of security. I trust that he won't lead me down a path that might backfire.

Evans Doyle has proven to be more than just an accounting firm – they are a dedicated partner in the success of our businesses, providing expert guidance, accessibility, and a genuine commitment to our growth and security.

A great working relationship

Kathryn Hunter is the Administrator of the Hamilton and Cambridge Farmers’ Markets.  The authentic farmers' markets showcase what wonderful products the Waikato has to offer and are thriving and growing every year. Many of the original stallholders are still with the market, with now over 60 members of the markets and many seasonal stallholders - all selling delicious locally grown farm produce and food products.

“We went to Evans Doyle for accountancy support for our not for profit organisation. As an organisation we receive stall fees, pay rent and pay costs - we needed an accountant that we could trust to make sure all the correct boxes were ticked!

We work with Sue Hoyle who is based in Picton - she does our GST and management reports, and is always on hand for any questions we have. Tim and the rest of the team are available on the end of the phone too if needed, which gives great peace of mind.

Since working with Evans Doyle I have personally moved my own accounting to them, and often recommend their services to others. It’s a great working relationship.”

The Real Value Lies in Unlocking the Big Picture

"I have always thought a good question trumps great advice. And that is why Evans Doyle are so successful in what they do best - creating value for their clients. I love my conversations with Jane - she really challenges me, gets me thinking. Asks searching questions. They often start with a ‘why’ and sometimes I am still thinking about a single question weeks and sometimes months later. Sure the annual accounts and tax advice are important and they are very good at that. But where the real value lies in unlocking the big picture - the strategy, clear thinking to clearly define objectives and goals and providing a support structure to help achieve these."

An invaluable part of our team

Evans Doyle has been an invaluable part of our team for the past six years. As well as setting up our trusts and companies in a tax-effective way, Tim has had a large role in mentoring us in all things business, property and finance.

We love our whiteboard sessions with Tim where he explains concepts to us in a way which we understand. When we are considering a purchase or new venture, Tim questions us to challenge our thought process and always encourages us to grow.

His communication is superb, we appreciate his detailed emails which give us a plan of what's ahead. Tim communicates with the rest of our team to ensure everyone is on the same page which has been vital in completing some complex purchases in short time frames.

Above all else, Tim is a genuinely great human and we always look forward to catching up with him.

Business partnerships can be both productive and enjoyable when the right team is in place

Mark, co-owner of Scaffrite Waikato, approached Evans Doyle for accounting and business support when seeking to purchase a business and sell a portion of it.  With business partners involved, he wanted to work with an accountant he could trust to advise on a business structure that would work for everyone involved.

Tim didn't just focus on number crunching; he played the role of a business coach, working closely with Mark to set up a trust and advise on business matters.
“Tim is so easy to deal with. He’s got a great personality that gives you confidence, and he really knows his stuff. The Evans Doyle team handle accounting and GST matters, and Tim is available for business advice when needed.”

“What  stood out was the approachable atmosphere at Evans Doyle. It wasn't your typical, corporate, or stuffy accountant's office. Instead, it was personable, filled with friendly faces, and easy to relate to. Evans Doyle shows that business partnerships can be both productive and enjoyable when the right team is in place.”

- Mark, Scaffrite Waikato

It was about finding the right accountant

The need for a more professional accountancy service, prompted a meeting with Tim Doyle of Evans Doyle Accountants and Advisors.  As busy geotechnical engineering company Waikato Geotechnical was in need of independent financial advice, accurate annual profit and loss reporting, and regular tax payment notifications.

This package was provided by Evans Doyle, together with a very high level of professionalism, timing and commitment.  Access to Evans Doyle staff and specific financial advice was made available, often at notice.

Furthermore, the ability of Tim Doyle to disseminate the rudimentary of accountancy and small business management in ‘one on one’ coaching sessions was invaluable and enabled a greater understanding of both the tax system and my responsibilities as a business owner.

On this basis, I would not hesitate to recommend the Evans Doyle to either existing companies, or ‘start up’ businesses alike for both accountancy and financial advisory services.

"We're grateful for Jane's financial advice and interest in our business. With her thoroughness and input into the budgets and viability, she helped facilitate the purchase of the hedge cutting business. And now, we have a stability we haven't had before."

- Peter Kleven

"In my business it's all about the people. If you have the right team, you are on to a winner. That's why I love working with Jane Evans from AgBiz. I know I can trust her with my business. She knows my business inside out, so she understands where I'm coming from, but at the same time always gives me an objective, unbiased view."

- Ruem Flax Hair Studio Owner, Michelle Follas.

"Jane has really impressed us with her assistance and thoroughness in developing an exit strategy for our dairy farm and a plan for our retirement future. Jane was great because she floated ideas about potential options and she looked at different scenarios, showing the effect on income. Jane did a lot of research to make sure we had the best information for making our decisions."

Bill and Ngaire McKain, Ohaupo

"Our dream for our business has become a reality, with the help of Jane's expertise and big picture thinking! Our goal was to secure a long-term lease for our camping ground to make sure it's safe for the generations to come. With Jane's input into the number crunching and viability, and especially her understanding of the long-term tax implications, it's now become a reality."
